A birthday card for those pesky men ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well,  I’ve created a  couple of male themed birthday cards this past week so that I have a stash for us and a stash to give to my mum and our Beth the next time we’re all together, hopefully in a couple of weeks.  Here is one I’ve created for some challenges and for the male birthday box …

A 125mm square card
It's a super fun stamp perfect for those men!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges

Shopping Our Stash Challenge #216 Splish Splash:
I used Spectrum Noir AquaTints like watercolour paints
I used AquaTints on both papers and the robot

Inspired by August colour pallette & theme

I also managed to use quite a lot of different mixed media backgrounds I have previously created.  It’s very hard for me because I’ve found that I love that I love experimenting with old and new products, creating what I want, what colours I want and how I want the papers to feel and look.  I have got to shrink my bulging folder of them before I m8ake any more lol!  I also have a current obsession for texture and there are multiple textures and products on this project and thankfully nothing that could be considered ‘girly’ lol!

I have candy that is open world wide to new and old Followers.  I would love it if my current Followers were to add their name too, for the post with the link you need to go here.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this week  ttfn Karen x

Another off the page project ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  I’m busy creating my obligations and just for fun and me projects but I wanted to make sure that this was entered into the challenges that inspired me to create it …

I do love these hot summery colours and these flower stamps too

I will have a photographic step by step tutorial but not until October because of commitments so please accept my apologies.  The bits of Windows 10 that were not working for me have, thankfully, been removed yay!!!  Sadly DH has not been so lucky: he has had to delete everything and start from scratch, so happy that didn’t happen to me.

A very quick post today as I have ‘schtuff’ I need to go back and finish, two are done just two more to do, thank goodness!  I love my bright orange, peach and lemon creation and it is staying in my craft room for the time being.  In fact I can’t wait to start creating another one, hopefully soon!  I have candy that is open world wide to new and old Followers.  I would love it if my current Followers were to add their name too, for the post with the link you need to go here.

An unusual background ...

Hello lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week’s going well.  I’ve projects and posts I need to get back to.  I need to create, finish, photograph, edit photographs, type posts and schedule my posts for DT obligations, Christmas card club and challenges.  I may be MIA for a few days because of trying to catch up.

We've had severe issues with Windows 10.  We planned to update over the coming UK bank holiday.  The DT obligations, Christmas Card Club and projects I created should have been finished and the steps above covered by now.  I can’t remember the last time I felt so dumb, so lacking and so useless computer-wise.  It’s fair to say that we’re not happy that our computers automatically updated.  DH had to un-install some of it because the laptop wasn't usable, DH is still having serious issues and this laptop is not perfect but I'm now able to get back to and finish my projects, photographs, edit photographs and type my posts.  I know many have not had issues but we have, and that was shocking.  DH was and still is a computer geek and if a computer geek is struggling with updates something’s not right lol!  I’ve wanted to rip my hair out at times grrr!  Anyways I can now get back to what I need to do and I'll be crafting and working in the background this week to catch up: because it all went so wrong over the weekend I had to stop what I was doing and we had to get this sorted for both of us.

Here is a mixed media card I created especially for some challenges, and thank goodness it was created, photographed, photo’s edited but no post written before the laptop/Windows 10 went potty …

A little 125mm square card
Isn't she lovely!  I'll try to play with the other Rubber Dance stamps I own next lol!

Try It On Tuesday Challenge Sending You Flowers

A month or two ago I had a bad fibro flare which meant I couldn’t sit upright at my craft desk, our sofa or our chairs for several days.  I was frustrated and grumpy because I’d had an idea for a background that I really wanted to try before I forgot.  DH went into my craft room (aka the room of complete and utter mess) and found the stencil, the watercolour pencils, a rejected canvas and a rejected canvas snippet for me so lying on my front on the sofa I quickly got the rough idea drawn.
A couple of hours later I had an A3‘ish’ sheet of canvas which I covered with watercolour pencilled dots using one of my Tando stencils.  DH then located a small paintbrush and a pot of water for me.  I was still having to lie on my front at this stage and I used a damp (very lightly) paintbrush to draw the colour in (it was barely damp because I wanted the colours to stay where they were and not blend too much).  I am going to do this again soon.  I’ve no idea why or where I thought of this, I may have been inspired by a blog or Pinterest Pin and I don’t really care because I love the background sheet, all from a piece of art that I tried to create and was going to bin lol.  I had a snippet of canvas paper, probably 125mm x 210mm, that DH located and I drew free form blobs on that piece.  That turned out just as good as I hoped it would so now I have one largish background sheet and one small snippet that are unique in the way that I created and coloured them.  I love it when it works!!!  There was a final bonus after creating these backgrounds: I found doing this so relaxing and so soothing that my fibro flare eased and I was able to sit back upright for an hour or two.

An off the page experiment with old and new stamps ...``

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  I have been playing again, I’ve been having so much fun too.  Some of my experiments have worked and some have not, but it was good to play and create a couple of off the page projects and a tutorial for House of Cards.  Today I have my summer colours project to share with you and here it is …

It's about 150 mm in size and has a bit of depth

Created for me and especially for these Challenges
Country View Crafts Challenge Summer
PaperArtsy Challenge Topic #15 Mediums: I was inspired by the original post
I wanted to try out the mediums that I own and see what I could come up with
I did try mixing my SNAT’s with white acrylic paint but the result was not pretty!

Colours & Optional Twist in the garden

I was very lucky to win the July candy at Country View Crafts blog and challenge and I was sent some lovely lush goodies, one of which is A4 bare chipboard sheets: I love bare chipboard because of what I can create with it J.  I cut my chipboard into A5 size and die cut a large circle.  Then I did the following steps:

1.  Added a layer of white gesso and left to dry;.
2.  Painted the circle in DecoArt Americana Buff acrylic paint and left to dry.

I have a lot of white card snippets from my DT creations at the beginning of the month.  I keep a bag for the snippets on my desk and I check it before I start a new project.  Then I followed these steps:

3.  I stamped the Sheena Douglass flowers with black Staz On ink onto the snippets;
4.  I used Perfectly Primary SNAT’s to create a peachy/orange shade in my paint pallette.

The next step was when I decided to experiment with an idea I had a couple of months ago.  I like/love glazes but I’m trying to use the last of my old colouring supplies.  I have inks that are 10+ year’s old, pots of Pebeo acrylics that are about 3-5 years old, a watercolour pallette, 10+ years, and they will not be replaced.   I would love to have more SNAT’s and H2Os (I’ve heavily used H2Os this summer), but I am sticking to my pledge of now colour purchases until the old are gone.  I have mixed my SNAT’s with white acrylic paint but the end result was not nice, to put it mildly lol!

5.  I added a small blob of glossy gel in my paint palette and blended the peach ink until I was happy with the colour.
6.  The mix was a little too thick so I added water to loosen the mix.
7.  I started to colour my stamped poppies and left to dry.
8.  I added more red to the glaze to create a darker orange and I added depth and shadow and left to dry.
9.  I created a lime green glaze in the same way.
10. Once the flowers were dry I fussy cut the poppies out and stuck those and decoupaged some of them too to my chipboard circle.
11.  I made a little blend of red and yellow and coloured up some more snippets that I stamped with orange Staz On and I fussy cut them too and framed the circle.

I have candy that is open world wide to new and old Followers.  I would love it if my current Followers were to add their name too, for the post with the link you need to go here.

Playing with old stamps, H2O paints and a canvas ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  I decided to play with an old Kanban stamp set, an old ’ish’ Clarity stamp, H2O paints and one of my mini canvas panels this week and here it is …

5"x7" canvas

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:
Allsorts Challenge #323 Inspired by Summer
Country View Crafts Challenge Summer
Craft Stamper Magazine Challenge Use Pens and/or Pencils
DRS Designs Rubber Stamps Challenge #187 You Left Me Hanging
Fab N Funky Challenge #270 Things With Wings
Stamplorations Challenge Stamps and Watercolours
Sweet Stamps Challenge Anything Goes

I wanted to create a canvas that didn’t have layers of paper on it.  I decided to experiment with how a stamped impression I would get using stamps directly onto the canvas.  I used my big 5” x 7” skinny acrylic block because I wasn’t confident that I would get the bird cage and the two birds straight by using the Rock-a-Blocks.

I’ve used Rock-a-Blocks for the last couple of years.  Before I purchased them I used Claritystamp handles.  I decided to change because I was not happy with the quality of the stamping after using Claritystamp handles.  I was also having a lot of problems getting the whole image stamped onto the canvas/card/paper.

First of I a thin layer of gesso over the whole canvas to give it a tooth for stamping and colouring.  Once dry I created a very pale blue H2O paint wash and brushed it across the whole canvas and left that to dry.

In the photos you can see how softly I went in (I added more colour to the lower third once all the images were the right colour).  I have a tendency to be heavy handed with inks/paints and most other medium so I’m trying to train myself to start at the pale end of the colour spectrum.  I can always add more but it’s hard to remove if it’s too deep or colourful and I left it to dry overnight.

The next day I stamped the birds with Cobalt blue and used my heat gun to ‘dry’ the ink.  I need to be careful when doing this as if I get too close to the canvas the gesso that’s underneath the H2O bubbles.  Again I put it to one side overnight.
Then I grabbed my H2O paints and Sakura Sparkle gel pens and started to colour the images in.  The pale colours (like the two birds) were coloured with H2O paints:  I added a lot of water to the tub.  Because I’m trying to use up the rest of my pens before they finally die on me (must be 10 years old) I used my Sakura gel pens to colour the flowers and leaves, as well as adding more definition to the not perfectly stamped image: simples!

I am happy with the end result and it was great to just play for fun because I had a lot of fun creating this one!  It will go into the ‘Christmas Presents’ box – I think mum will love it :=)

Christmas Card Club #16 Lots of Layers & loads of photo's ...

Hello lovely friends and visitors, I hope you’re having a lovely weekend.  Before I get to the why, what and such I wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  I’ve not visited much recently, usual issue, I know you get and forgive that, however many of you leave lovely comments on every creation, cheering me on all the time, so much more than I deserve but thank you!  I’m a lot freer with how, what and why because of you.  I’m no longer worried about if others ‘like’ what I’m creating.  I’m more comfortable with colours, trying different styles, and, it is fair to say, that I’m not bored creatively either lol!

Back to the crafty stuff it was Lorraine’s choice to pick the challenge and she wanted to see lots of layers, errm, that’s something I avoid when creating Christmas cards these days and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do it.  However I saw a comment, either on a blog or Facebook, the comment was along the lines of ‘it’s only so many Friday’s or weeks’ before Christmas Day/week!  Well that totally freaked me out and I made a conscious decision to start creating the special (family and friends) Christmas cards.  This is going to be hand delivered so I was free to add as many and as much as I wanted to lol!  I’m obsessed with the Crazy Birds s and my H2O paints so here it is …

This is going to be a hand delivered Christmas card!
I also used brads because that film does not like glue or tape and I may decorate the inside!

I have posts all ready to go for the next week so I hope to be able to spend more time online.  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon ttfn Karen x

Pearls or Lace at Let's Craft & Create Challenge ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  A new month  means I have a DT project to share with today.  At Let’s Craft & Create Challenge the new theme is Lace and Pearls and here is my card …

Yep I have a 'thaing' for A6 cards at the moment!

We Love to Create Challenge #16 MM or Creative Goes

Last week my back was seriously painful 24/7 and that caused a major fibro fog which meant I had absolutely no idea what to create for this challenge.  This is my third attempt because I hated my first attempt and was not happy with the second attempt either.  I went to DH to ask about the second one and he immediately picked up that I had struggled because it didn’t look right!  I took both cards to pieces.
I started afresh using one of my newish Little Claire stamps.  I think I won them last year and they have been in the NBUS stamps box since I received them.  The H2O paints are still out so I decided to have a play with the stamp the paints.  I stamped onto the Crafters Companion Centura Pearl Snow White Accents card and onto snippets of the same with the fuchsia pink.  I wanted the background to have a punch of colour so I filled the flowers.  I wasn’t keen on this pink with just white, it’s not subtle lol!  I dipped my brush into the water and then into what I thought was the dark blue paint and then, ooh my, I really panicked!  Brown, really Karen!  Yep I was that frustrated with myself that I was talking to myself.  I had used brown and because I’ve never created anything that has a significant amount of brown on it and liked it I panicked before deciding to just go with it.  Anyways luckily, for my sanity, I love the brown and the fuchsia pink and I’ll be playing with brown in the future lol!

Another Crazy Bird! I'm obsessed ...

This is such a different colour scheme for me – it’s came about because of our lovely Becca’s birthday challenge.  Teal and purple?  I've never used purple and teal before, although I had an obsession for teal a few years ago, lol!
I'm also experimenting with inks and paints to create different backgrounds and getting very mucky fingers but so happy with the results!  This is my attempt of creating the Northern Lights, still trying to get a consistent and good result for that before I share a tutorial.
However this background is a bit too light but I loved it so much I had to use it as the background for my bird.  He is sitting on a thick tree branch (flourish snippet which I shimmered up with UTEE).  I also got to use one of my home made embellishments (Martha Stewart mould and ThermoMorph, which is sort of like Friendly Plastic).

I really, really enjoyed making this one!  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this week  ttfn Karen x

* my lovely DH gifted me more Martha Stewart moulds for Christmas a couple of years ago – sorry not sure of the name of them but they are wonderful!

** I was given a pot of ThermoMorph by the company that makes it.  I love this product and now use it instead of the foiled Friendly Plastic pieces because it is much more adaptable.   The company that makes the ThermoMorph asked me if I would share an honest review on Amazon after I had played with the product.  I gave ThermoMorph a good review because it is a great product and my views were and still are my own.  I received no compensation for the review and I now chose to use this instead of FP pieces.
