A final post for the month ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend is going well.  I’ve a card to share again today and here it is …

An A5 card for our card box for a change!

It has great depth yet flattens to go cheapest post

I must start playing with my newer butterfly stamps lol!

Love these little flower stamps (so versatile) and touches of bling with sequins!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:
A Sprinkle of Imagination Challenge Anything Goes (The Distress Re-Inkers)

I’ve played a lot with my Spectrum Noir AquaTints a lot this month and I’m going to be using them a lot more from now on.  I love the many different effects you can create with them and that they work with many of the other mediums that I have in my stash – always a bonus when you need to be frugal.

On today’s creation I’ve used them as an ink for the background pieces and as watercolour paints for both soft and bold colours.  They blend beautifully with each other and I have discovered they also blend with some of my Distress re-inkers too.  I love these colours because they are gorgeously bright and zippy but not gaudy or garish.  Needing at least two more of the colour sets they’re at the top of my ‘Must Have Wish List’, above all stamps, that’s how much I am in love with and enjoy using them lol!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do over the coming week.  Also huge thanks to my lovely friends for visiting and encouraging even when you know I can’t return the favour right now!  You are all lovely and much loved by this somewhat eccentric (aka mad) crafting stamp addict woman  ttfn Karen x

More Spectrum Noir AquaTints and Sheena's flower stamp set ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend is going well.  Sorry for posting and running but my back is in constant spasm right now so I can’t sit up for long and am so very, very grateful that I prepared my creations and posts a week ago!  Sadly I’ve not been able to get any crafting done so am still behind with Christmas Card Club.  Thank goodness for DH and the fact that he supports and help me with my crafty obsessions lol!  DH photographed this for me so I could enter challenges and here it is …

A 15cm square card for a change!
The Patchwork Templates have been a true blessing for me

A very old brad and a very old large gem stone!

(The Dreamweaver paste and Perfect Pearls are stocked by ASI)
Frilly & Funkie Challenge Happy x 3: I love experimenting with old stamps and supplies and creating something new and a bit more current with them!
However the yellow has blended more than I expected into the pink and
where the purple and pink have blended they have gone a dark blue/purple colour!

Another experiment with my Spectrum Noir AquaTints inks (SNAT).  I've used them to create spray inks and added Perfect Pearls to create my ink sprays, I've used them to stamp and then colour an image, to colour embossing paste, to create BG papers too and to colour white acrylic paint to create my own custom colours.  They are very versatile and I haven’t found anything they won’t work with yet, lol.  I know they are dye based so I’ve made sure I only play with water based products at the moment.
My favourite thing to create is spray inks or spray paints and add Perfect Pearls to them.  That has enabled me to do more mixed media projects and experiments and as I am a frugal crafter these days that was why they really appealed to me and why I asked DH to purchase them for me for Christmas last year.  If I don’t win a Spectrum Noir challenge I will be asking DH for another set this Christmas too – I need the gold, silver and white, lol, then there is a set called Beautiful Grunge - I really really need that set too.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this weekend  ttfn Karen x

A second quick post for challenges ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week was good and you have fab weekend plans.  DH has been an angel and photographed and edited my creations so that I could enter them into several challenges before they close here is today’s second card creation …

Another A6 card - this time flat!
That landscape

The big tree and grasses
A final look

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:

I had a lovely session with several really old stamps to create this landscape.  I don’t think they are to purchase in the UK any longer, I have checked some US sites and I’m struggling with finding them there too.  They were the first landscape builder stamps that I ever purchased more than eighteen years ago, lol!  I had an obsession with creating landscapes back then and I fell in love with these stamps when I saw them at Alexandra Palace.  They were created by: Plaid, Rubber Stampede; Delta or All Night Media – yep they are that old!
My skills weren’t so great back then so I didn’t use them very much.  However when I finally managed to get good results with the brayer (approx five years ago) I started playing with these stamps again.  Then when I won the Pan Pastels from Premium Craft Brands – well they have been taken out and played with an awful lot more since then too lol!
As I was typing I was trying to remember what I used to stamp and colour this scene and suddenly realised that I had use lots of different mediums and this the order that I used them:

#1 left over ink created blue sky and yellow/green ground
#2 paper masks and Pan Pastels to add colour to sky and mountains (sprayed with hair spray before next step)
#3 pine trees coloured with two Memento dew drop IPs
#4 big tree coloured with felt tips before stamping it and pulling the colour out with a water brush
#5 grasses stamped with Versamark and Pan Pastels
#6 more grass stamped with Adirondack IP
#7 I inked the edges with blue and green Staz On before sticking to an A6 card.

Not so easy and simples but lots of lovely ink, Pan Pastel, mediums and stamped fun.  These are really old stamps and I have no idea where they are available any longer.  They were the first ‘landscape’ and tree stamps that I purchased over fifteen years ago, lol!  I had an obsession with landscapes back then.  Sadly my skills weren’t so great and it was only when I could finally start to brayer about four years ago that I started playing with the stamps again lol!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this weekend  ttfn Karen x

A quick post for some challenges ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week was good!  Because this one was cut so short by other stuff going on I’m sat here thinking it can’t be Friday already let alone the end of the month of May eek!  I’ve another card to share with you and here it is …

Another A6 card
Gorgeous effect!

That lovely paper!
A final look

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:

The gorgeous stamp that I used on this card is one of the lovely stamps I won from the lovely and very talented Brenda – I adore this flower and foliage stamp.  I created the background behind the flower first using my Spectrum Noir AquaTints and left it to dry before inking up the stamp with the AquaTints and spraying the stamp lightly with water to get bleed look to the stamped image.  The card matt underneath the stamped panel was created by me soaking up left over SNAT from that onto a snippet of card – I was able to soak up the excess ink on my craft mat.  I created the diamond background paper, details here, and used that gorgeous stencil again, as well as lovely lush ribbon and some coloured WOC roses.

Thankfully DH photographed my cards so that I could link them up to the challenges before they close – very grateful I am too!  I am really hoping to be able to get my Christmas Card Club entry finished soon and will have DH photograph that one too.  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this weekend  ttfn Karen x

Spectrum Noir AquaTints with Mixed Media snippets ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well – sorry for the disappearance act again!  I had hoped to blog at the beginning of this week but have had issues that prevented me from photographing and blogging until now.  Anyways I’ve a card created especially for current challenges and here it is …

An A6 card: love this off centre layout!

  Paperbabe Stamps Challenge Colour Pallette

I have lots of ‘experimental coloured by me’ papers to use and I’m trying to use them before creating new, lol!  On today’s card I created a background paper using a mix of SN AquaTints and white acrylic paint.  Yes I created my own pink acrylic paint with SNAT red (#12) and white acrylic paint.  I slapped pink paint onto some slightly grubby paper (it is grubby because I have owned it for a long time, lol).  Next I added SNAT blue to the pink paint and created a dark rich purple paint, again I randomly splattered onto the paper.  I then added some more white paint to the mix and painted that randomly on the paper too.   I used a large watercolour paintbrush dipped into clear water and run up and down the coloured paper and created texture and lines in the paint: simples and one very happy crafter.  So I have an A4 coloured sheet of pink, purple and plum coloured paper to use up and I only used a little to add those diamond shapes to this card, lol, well I do want to blend different mediums and styles together and it’s so much fun!

I’m hoping to catch up over the weekend with my Christmas Card Club project.  I have so nearly finished it and it also needs photographing.  I am finding this stop start crafting very, very frustrating!  And that’s an understatement.

I am hoping to be back to creating and blogging soon but until then I want to say a really huge thank you to my lovely regular friends and visitors and for any DT visitors or new friends too for taking the time to visit and comment.  I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this week  ttfn Karen x

This weeks sketches, journal pages and Art It Friday ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend has started well.  I’m experimenting with creating and sharing an extra post at the end of each week where I share photographs of what I have created in a week so that I can link up to all those lovely artists in our blogland.  I will show a photograph of each page.  There will not be a list of the supplies and tools.  There will be a link for each journal photograph if you want to see what was used and why.  So here is the first piece of journaling that I created this week …

Tuesday 19th May She Wears Flowers in Her Hair

Wednesday 20th May An A5 Journal Page

Thursday 21st May Another A5 Journal Page

An experiment that, thankfully, worked!

Friday 22nd May Double Page Spread

I’m really grateful to Mo and Kim Dellow as I’ve found out that there are other lovely crafters and artists out there that who share their beautiful sketches too.  I am on a very step and quick learning curve with this new ‘obsession’ of mine.  Huge thanks to Jane Davenport, the lovely and very generous Mo and Kim Dellow as I’m linking up to these (not challenges) links:

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this weekend  ttfn Karen x

A double page spread for my inky journal ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week was good.  It’s the weekend again!  I have been playing in my inky journal over the last week.  I’ve more projects on the go but I can’t share them yet lol!  It’s Art It Friday over at Kim’s blog and I’ve a post for that later on today.  For now here is the double page spread that I created with my Spectrum Noir AquaTints, Sheena’s A5 Flower Power stamp set, Visible Image grunge flourish and text stamp and my whimsical sketched ladies …

It's an A5 journal - and I've only just had the idea to use some of sketched ladies in here!

I am so relieved to see that you can see the ghosting effect with the old ink pads!
I was so happy when I won a set of sentiment stamps from Visible Image

I got to choose the stamp set and I knew that they would be good stamps for me to journal with!

My two current favourite small ladies - I still got to do a lot more practice!
That gorgeous flourish and some of the sentiment can be seen here

you will never know unless you try (one of my favourite phrases)

I’m trying to foster the habit of journaling at least once a week in my inky journal and experimenting with BGs for those journal pages too.  For this BG I light sprayed an A4 sheet of Centura Pearl card with water so that it was damp but not soaking or dripping wet.  I used two pipettes to drop the two shades of AquaTints blue ink onto the card to create puddles.  I picked the card up and twisted and turned until it was covered and blended.  Once I was happy with that I added more of the darker blue ink here and there and put it aside to dry.

Once dry I looked around my desk for stamps and inspiration.  I saw the small practice sketches and the IPs I'm trying to remember to use before the completely dry out.  I wanted to see if I could incorporate my inky BG, stamping and my little practice sketches.  I used the old IPs and stamps to see how it would look.  I always figured I could cover it up if it didn’t work.

The BG has a wonderful ghostly, aged or distressed background.  I used the sentiment stamp with chalky white ink repeatedly and stamped over that with the grunge flourish stamp in gold.  The end result is gorgeous!  It’s also another technique I want to remember and do again in the future.

I had flowers and coloured card left over from my cardboard canvas and sketched lady project that I shared (see here) and I decided to use some of them to adorn my little sketched ladies.  The smaller flowers were created with the solid small flower stamps that are in the stamp set.  I stamped and embossed them on snippets of card that were coloured with the AquaTints.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this weekend  ttfn Karen x

Another A5 journal page ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  As I promised in yesterday’s post I am here with another journal A5 journal page.  Yesterday’s and today’s pages came about because I wanted to see if I could use the same ink and painted snippets across a double page but with different stamps used on each page.  I hoped that when I opened my pages that they wouldn’t jar and would compliment each other and thankfully I now know I can do that in future.  Here is my second page …

The full look on the left and with the borders removed on the right

I love these Neil Walker stamps that I was lucky enough to win from the Artistic Stamper.

So many lovely shades of yellow - not a colour I normally use!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:
Simon Says Stamps Monday Challenge XYZ: I’m into using sunny yellow right now
The Artistic Stamper Challenge: journaling Artistic Stamper stamps too

Just as I hoped: the Steampunk Edgar works really well with those birds:
However I need to remember to ground the birds and add a drawn or die cut branch next time!

I do hope I’m not boring you because I’ve a double page journal to share tomorrow and it is the first time I’ve combined my sketched ladies with several stamps and a gorgeous Spectrum Noir AquaTints background in my A5 journal.  You’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see but I can say I’m pleased lol.

I’m hoping to do more journaling and mixed media arch experiments tonight and tomorrow.  I also want to let you in on a little secret.  I add my own words, feelings and sadness or joy to my pages after they have been photographed.  Well there is some stuff that I really don’t want to share, lol.

I’m having a ball with using bright colours right now.  It may be because I’m desperate for warmth, sun and spring!  It has been so wet and chilly in the UK this week – had to put the heating on a couple of times which for late May is shocking.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this week  ttfn Karen x
